Frequently asked questions
Are your services covered by OHIP?
OHIP covers psychotherapy only when it is provided by a medical doctor, such as a psychiatrist or family physician. As a Registered Psychotherapist based in Hamilton, Ontario, my services are not covered by OHIP. However, many clients are able to receive reimbursement through their extended health benefits.
If you are seeking psychotherapy in Hamilton or online across Ontario, I recommend contacting your insurance provider to confirm your coverage for Registered Psychotherapists.
Please note: Psychotherapy services are often eligible for reimbursement. Coaching and mediation services are not covered by insurance.
How does payment work?
Payment is required at the end of each session to keep things simple and transparent. You will receive a detailed receipt by email that you can submit directly to your insurance provider for reimbursement.
Accepted payment methods include Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Interac e-Transfer.
What are my rights as a client?
Creating a safe, respectful, and confidential space is at the heart of my work. Everything you share in therapy is kept private and confidential, with a few important legal exceptions.
Confidentiality may need to be broken if there is a risk of harm to yourself or someone else; there is disclosure of abuse or neglect involving a child, older adult, or vulnerable person; your records are required by a court of law; there is disclosure of sexual misconduct by another regulated healthcare professional; or you provide written consent to share your information, such as with a lawyer or insurance provider.
If you ever have questions about confidentiality, I am always happy to walk you through it so you feel fully informed and comfortable.
Are psychotherapy services regulated in Ontario?
Yes. Psychotherapy is a regulated health profession in Ontario through the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. If you are looking for online therapy in Ontario or in-person psychotherapy in Hamilton, services must generally be provided to clients who are located within Ontario at the time of their session.
If you are located outside of Ontario, feel free to reach out before booking to explore your options.
Are specialized services covered by insurance?
Coverage can vary, but here is a general guide: individual psychotherapy in Hamilton and Ontario is usually covered; couples therapy and marriage counselling are often covered depending on your plan; premarital counselling may or may not be covered; and sex therapy coverage varies by provider.
It is always best to check directly with your insurance provider for details specific to your plan.
What is your cancellation policy?
I understand that life happens, and I do my best to be flexible while also respecting scheduled time.
Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations or missed appointments will be charged the full session fee. Sessions included in packages will be considered used if missed without notice.
What are your fees?
Fees vary depending on whether you are booking psychotherapy, coaching, or mediation services in Hamilton or online. You can find detailed pricing on the relevant service pages of the website.
A few important notes: a valid credit card is required to secure your first appointment; fees are subject to change; psychotherapy services are HST-exempt in Ontario; and coaching and mediation services are not covered by insurance.
What is the difference between psychotherapy and coaching?
This is a common and important question. Psychotherapy is a regulated mental health service that supports emotional wellbeing, trauma, anxiety, relationships, and personal growth. Coaching focuses on forward-looking goals such as dating, relationships, confidence, and life direction.
If you are searching for therapy in Hamilton for anxiety, stress, or trauma, psychotherapy is the right fit. If you are looking for relationship, dating, or life coaching, coaching may be more appropriate.
If needed, I will always guide you toward the service that best supports you.
Do you offer mediation services?
Yes. I offer mediation services in Hamilton and across Ontario for individuals and families navigating conflict, separation, or important life decisions. Mediation provides a supportive, structured space to improve communication, clarify needs, and reach mutually respectful agreements.
Please note that mediation services are not covered by insurance.
Can I access services online?
Yes. I offer secure virtual therapy, coaching, and mediation services across Ontario, making it easier to access support from the comfort of your home.
What if I am not sure what service I need?
That is completely okay and very common. Whether you are considering therapy in Hamilton, relationship coaching, or mediation, I am happy to help you determine what feels like the best fit.
You can reach out for guidance before booking, and we can take the next step together in a way that feels comfortable and aligned with your needs.
